Name Derivation

Kafarhata is a Syriac word that means "The new field". It derives from two root words: Kafar which means the field and Hata for which many explanations have been given: the new or al chakika, the hole between two mountains where grows the grass.

Kafarhata Geographical Location

Kafarhata is a small but beautiful village situated in Koura casa, North Lebanon. Because of its central location between Koura's villages known as Kouayteh, or little strip, and because of its commercial and educational prosperity, this village is considered the capital and the center of Kouayteh. It is 350 meters above the sea level, 68 km north of Beirut and is only 7 km away from the seacoast.

One can reach Kafarhata through either one of these five roads:
. Batroun - Hamat - Ras Nhash - Kafarhata.
. Chekka - Kefraya - Kafarhata.
. Amyoun - Kafarhazir - Kafarhata.
. Kousba - Bziza - Majdel - Kaftoun - Btaaboura - Kafarhata.
. Boukssmayya - Kaftoun - Btaaboura - Kafarhata.
All these roads are tortuous and sinuous but very picturesque. They pass through forests of Mediterranean trees and overlook the valleys.

Kafarhata Characteristics

Kafarhata enjoys moderate four-season weather: warm comfortable summer, beautiful moderate spring and autumn, and cold winter.

Kakarhata is known for its pacifist inhabitants who came to it a long time ago from different Lebanese regions: Kfarzibian farm, Al Choueir, Duma, Baskinta, Akkar, Amioun, Batroun, Sourat, Tartij…. Like all Koura residents, Kafarhata inhabitants are highly cultivated; the rate of education in Kafarhata is the highest in the region.

Kafarhata is proud to provide various services for its inhabitants as well as for the inhabitants of the whole region. If it weren't for its 4 clinics, pharmacy, dispensary, central office, restaurant, supermarket, flower shop, fast food restaurants, house ware stores, auto repairs, fashion and pastry shops, gas stations, and other stores, these inhabitants would have to go to the closest town every time they want to fulfill their needs.

Students from the entire region seek to learn in its elementary, complementary, secondary, public schools for its excellent outputs and its teachers' competence. It's worth mentioning that computers, a conference room, and a library equip the elementary complementary school so that students come to know the latest information. For many years, this school has obtained the appreciation of the Ministry of Education for the high rate of success among its students in the official exams. Local organizations such as the Religious Endowment, wakf, and Kaharhata gymnastic club provide cultural, social, sportive services throughout the year. Kafarhata hosts every summer many tournaments in football, wrestling, volleyball, the most popular sport in the village, ….

Olives, almonds, grapes, figs, …and some vegetables are the main agricultural products in Kafarhata while the iron, the aluminum, and the dynamite are its main industries.

Three springs supply Kakarhata as well as the entire region with drinking water. The main source of water is ayn kafarhata to which high attention is paid yearly: its water is examined regularly for public safety.
